Auric can't pass up a good sword fight and says he's just young at heart. Some claim he hasn't aged since the 80's... Half Irish and half Norse, Auric was born in the Viking city of Dublin in the late 11th century. He has traveled extensively throughout Eastern and Western Europe employed by many different warlords and even serving a few years with the Varangian guard in Constantinople (Miklagard, "The Great Town" as the Rus called it). Auric enjoys fighting with many different styles including sword and shield, spear, bow and two-handed weapons, especially great swords (I know, great swords aren’t particularly Viking, but they are so much fun!). Having served as a mercenary in Dagorhir since the 80’s, Auric decided to help Güntar form a drot (Norse for warband) with some basis on what is arguably the most recognized and/or notorious warrior culture from the Dark Age. The emphasis, in part being that of historical accuracy (to a certain degree), but more importantly: To capture the unique spirit and mythology of the Vikings themselves.

Also known as GVK, Güntar has more Dagorhir weapons than he knows what to do with. Güntar von Keitz is German. In fact, he's technically a baron and descended from a great and noble family--though a "fiscally-challenged" one of portable estate. For this reason, he (mis)spent much of his youth trying to increase his household income (and prestige) through various ventures that always seemed to involve fighting. He grew to love such a wandering lifestyle and has traveled and fought throughout Europe for variety of causes and warlords. The last and only time Güntar was previously in a unit was the mid-80s as a member of the infamous Apollians (now all Tuchux--if that means anything to you). After merc'ing for almost 17 years, Güntar and Auric talked about forming a Viking warband in the summer of 2002 and the rest is history... A pure sword-and-board fighter until 2000, GvK has since taken up archery, greatsword, glaive, spear, etc. |

Half Thumb, Son of Nels

A warrior both old AND bold! Part of his thumb lost in a wood-splitting accident, his real given name is something Half Thumb rarely shares with others. Originally from the shores of Finland, Half Thumb was an oddity in that he hates the cold. He became a warrior to keep moving, and to visit warmer lands. During one of his sojourns, he incurred the anger of a Turkish caliph, and ended up in prison. Grateful to be alive and warm, he nevertheless tried for freedom. Having no success, he was becoming resigned to his status when he noticed a guard through a window in his cell. The man was too light-skinned to be a native, so he called to him. This man was named Auric Windwolf, a Norseman from the Viking city of Dublin. After much dialogue and seeing a kindred form the north, Auric agreed to purchase Half Thumb's freedom. He then released Half Thumb as a free man. Never the less, since then, Half Thumb has always been willing to come running when Auric sends word. Half Thumb is easily the oldest of the Vardrotta, but far from the most experienced. He fights for the fun, camaraderie and glory. What he lacks in skill he compensates for with enthusiasm and humor. Alas, on the battlefield, those qualities rarely help much! He used to simply accompany Auric to battle, but the last several years has been participating more and more.

Quinn enjoys fighting, drumming, and long walks on the beach... His past clouded in mystery, Quinn is somewhat of a unique character in this Viking warband. It is rumored that he was bard to the court of the Earl of East Anglia, but was pressed into military service when King Harold Godwinsson needed every able body to defeat the Viking invaders from the north who were camped at Stamford bridge outside of York. Inspired and awed by the bravery of the Viking host - especially the lone Viking who held Stamford bridge until the English finally killed him and decimated his comrades - Quinn returned with the defeated horde to learn more about this noble people. Wandering for years, Quinn traveled far across Europe and the Middle East, learning the customs, stories and traditions of the many peoples he encountered. Quinn finally met up with Güntar Von Keitz and Auric Windwolf during his travels, and agreed to join their newly formed warband. Quinn enjoys fighting with spear, javelin, and great sword, but he will gladly duel with anyone single sword. After a long day of battling, you can usually find him playing his dumbek for the local belly dancers. After facing death many times, Quinn has learned not to take himself too seriously, and neither should you!

D’Mitrii Magyarov

(No longer active, but always welcome!) D’Mitrii hails from the lands of the Magyar in the Hungarian Steppes. While this is his first foray into Dagorhir he has previously done some Markland fighting. In August he can usually be found at Pennsic in the camp of the "Wine Drinking Slackers!". D’Mitrii does not do any fighting at Pennsic mostly because when the men are off fighting... the women are left alone in camp (insert evil grin here).
